One of the IETF's goals in the design of IPv6 was to ease network management. Three of the important ways that IPv6 does this are: autoconfiguration, in which a node discovers nearby routers and determines its own IP address; renumbering, which eases the pain of renumbering a network; and route aggregation, which eases router configuration, especially for entities such as ISPs. On the other hand, converting a network to IPv6 can be a complex process. RFC 4057 discusses three common situations and ways to deal with them.
