The cost benefit of
Voice over IP telephony is no longer the primary driver of VoIP deployments amongst SMBs.
According to London, Ontario-based Info-Tech Research Group Inc., VoIP has proven to be a business
enabler for SMBs and an increasing number of businesses are taking advantage of this. Telephony
shipments to SMBs will increase more than one-third this year, coupled with a 17% decrease in
traditional telephony.
Businesses are finding that VoIP's unified messaging feature allows for greater efficiency that
results in better customer service and location independence. But the payoffs -- especially cost -- come
only after careful planning and implementation, which can take a year or more and should extend beyond
the VoIP solution to ensure quality of service.
