Cisco has released a string of products designed to expand its presence in the corporate data center and deliver sophisticated networking functions to companies using its Service Oriented Network Architecture (SONA) data center framework.

A module designed to add eight 10Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) ports to Cisco's existing Catalyst 6500 switches increases local switching performance 60%, while lowering 10GigE prices by almost a third, according to Cisco.

The company also rolled out a switch built to fit in blade-server chassis from Fujitsu Siemens, to use data center space more efficiently. Cisco already offers blade switches for Dell and HP chassis.

Cisco also launched an online community called Cisco Beyond, which is designed to let customers share event-driven scripts and best-management practices. The focus of the community, as initiated by Cisco, is Cisco hardware that supports Cisco's IOS Embedded Event Manager, the management software embedded in Cisco switching and routers.
